the story behind the art: My mom’s home has bare walls in every room except for one. I promised her I would create an original art piece to add color to her walls. We’re the opposite. Every wall in my home is adorned with artwork. Any time I move I hang up a piece of art on day one. As an expressive artist, I paint based on emotion and flow. The emotion she chose was “happy.” Tequila Sunrise was painted in a single session that was kicked off with Wonder by Shawn Mendes playing in the background. I’d had the song and album on repeat for days, and my mom enjoyed the Shawn Mendes playlist during our drive to Arches National Park. I thought of her current life trajectory and channeled music that made me happy and songs that she enjoys as I painted.
