Art Class: Evening for Educators: Art Moments and Freedom from Perfection (Copy)

I’ll be facilitating an intuitive painting class aka Healing Though Art class geared towards K-12 educators. This event is free to attend.

Take the pressure off your artistic practice by focusing on creating and experimenting, rather than obsessing on the end result! Students (and everyone, really) can get their artistic practices snagged by the ideas of good vs. bad and perfectionism.

Art is an explorative process, and we’ll use special exhibitions Blue Grass, Green Skies: American Realism and Impressionism from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Photo-Secession: Painterly Masterworks of Turn-of-the-Century Photography to better understand our own.

Join us as we practice artful moments and discover what happens when you seek non-perfection in the classroom.

Solo Art Exhibition: Perspectives of You

Perspectives of You: What You See Reflects Back On You is my first solo exhibit. I constructed the exhibit to thematically tie into the play Whitelisted, which is being performed concurrently. Come see the play and check out the exhibit. You don’t have to purchase a ticket to the play in order to view the exhibit. The exhibit is located in the Green Room Gallery at Salt Lake Acting Company (SLAC) and is free to the public. You can visit the exhibit any time during SLAC’s business hours (M-F from 11am-5pm) or during the evenings and weekend matinees during before or during the show. Doors open 1 hour before the play starts. The majority of the art in the exhibit is on display for the first time and includes several new pieces. All of the art is available for sale with payment plans available for the larger art (caveat: Oceans Apart is not available for sale at this time).

Artist Reception: October 19th from 6:30pm - 7:20pm only.

Featured Artist: Remember When?

I have a new art piece “Aurora Blue” making its public debut this month!

About the show: It is said that hindsight is 20/20, and for artists memories have the power to transcend mediums and dimensions.

Our memories are potent entities that shape us and impact the lens through which we experience our lives.

“Remember When” showcases nostalgia in all its forms, from personal to collective memory, decades past, and fleeting moments. What do you choose to forget and to remember?

Artist reception during Gallery Stroll on Friday, September 20th | 6pm - 9pm

Urban Arts Gallery hours: Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm - 9pm.

I typically take Juneteenth off as a day of reflection and connection.

My ancestors were in Texas on that day and my roots go through Galveston, TX where Major General Gordon Granger road through with the 2.5 years late news.

Honored and excited to participate on this panel and celebrate to weave their legacy into my responses.

Breakout by 365 Poetry

I’ll be performing poetry and an original song. This year I’m allowing myself to step into a dream I had as a teenager—performing as a singer/songwriter. My stretch goal this year was to learn to write songs and perform at least twice this year and one of the songs I played had to be something I’d written. Well, this night I will have achieved my goal early. Join me in celebrating! I’m looking forward to exceeding this goal and writing more songs this year and getting more comfortable playing guitar and singing in front of people.

This is the first and likely the only time “Generations” will be on display for public viewing. These two pieces will be on display to the public for the first time. “The so…” is featured in this series and was originally created for the 2023 NBA All-Star Games.
